Murray, Joseph Pizzorno, Lara Pizzorno book is an extraordinary reference for anyone wishing to know how foods affect the body, why they react the way they do, what to eat to address specific health issues, comprehensive information about fat and its importance in the diet and which foods to eat as well as what to stay clear from for optimal health. I would highly recommend it for consumers, health care practitioners, dieticians and especially doctors. The chapters are organized, well researched, documented with numerous supporting studies and the references are clearly ordered and easy to confirm.
The Encyclopedia of Healing Foods book is not only filled with very specific and helpful information on foods, vitamins and minerals, but the great number of tables with nutritent values, percentages, cabohydrates, vitamins, minerals and other details proved invaluable in my own research. This book is a must-have for anyone in the nutrition field and healthcare field. Physicians would benefit greatly as well, although if their clients embraced the information in this book, they'd soon be seeing far less of them.

Wonderful to have as a resource for what we are eating on an everyday basis. Love this The Encyclopedia of Healing Foods book! I have recommended it to many, and as a nutrition major, I have to say it is a must-buy for anyone who wants to learn more about food and wellness.

Real Food What to Eat and Why by Nina Planck PDF Review ebook Download



I can't praise this Real Food: What to Eat and Why book highly enough. A zillion cheers for Nina and the easy-to-read, friendly book she has delivered, filled with information that even a seasoned amateur nutritionist like myself can learn from.

What you'll find here are not recipes, like a reviewer was upset about below. But if she had read the title, it's pretty obvious this book is about the "why" behind the foods, not a "how-to-make-a-dish" book. And that's good, as we've been needing this info.

What you will find are facts and references to studies (with footnotes). I think we all can agree that American nutrition has been muddled by so much information, that it seems impossible to weed through just exactly what is healthy?

And that's where Nina cuts through the fog, with basic, simplified, and logical explanations of "why" our bodies need "what" food and the different kinds of food from traditional to industrial.

Nowhere in this
Real Food: What to Eat and Why book does Nina bash or criticize. Here positivity is glowing and admirable, especially with such hotly debated topics.

I would advise anyone to read this
Real Food: What to Eat and Why book. There are also parts addressed to children and the elderly. It's important for us to get back to the natural order of things, and stop being nutritional and drug experiments for scientists and pharmacologists. Being healthy starts first with your mind, then what you eat!

Fasting and Eating for Health by Joel Fuhrman M.D PDF ebook Download



In this Fasting and Eating for Health: A Medical Doctor's Program for Conquering Disease by Joel Fuhrman, Neal D. Barnard book, he explains some of the benefits you can gain from fasting, and he explains exactly why you should not engage in fasting for more than 3-4 days without going to a medical clinic. Dr. Fuhrman is a medical doctor, and a former olympic ice skater who overcame an injury that was almost fatal to his olympic career, via fasting.

This is not a book to help you plan a fast. This Fasting and Eating for Health is a book that can help to motivate a fast and to motivate more healthy eating. This book has a few very critical pieces of information (e.g. never eat between zero and 1200 calories because above 1200 calories you have enough carbohydrates -> glocose for your brain, and at zero calories your brain converts to ketosis and has enough glucose, but between 0 and 1200 calories your brain and organs compete for cabohydrates and you can easily damage your internal organs.)

The Fasting and Eating for Health book is so motivational that I think many people will try unsupervised fasting after reading this book. I think the doctor should admit that his book will be too successful, and he should give a few more tips about how to run a short unsupervised fast, or what entry criteria / monitoring could be used for a short and self-supervised fast. That's the only flaw in this book.

This Diet and Nutrition: A Holistic Approach by  Rudolph Ballentine M.D book is an encyclopedia of information, but I read it front-to-back like a novel. Not only does it describe the different food groups, vitamins and minerals, but it also explains the digestive process and how nutrients are absorbed by the body. Scientific principles are explained in a way that anyone can understand. As far as the information being outdated, the human body today works the same way that it did 20 years ago, so the information is still relevant.

It was written years ago, but one point the Diet and Nutrition: A Holistic Approach author makes is that we should take our advice on diet from those cultures who have been living and eating healthfully for thousands of years instead of jumping on the latest nutrition trend that originated three years ago. Who knows how the trendy thinking on diet, which originated in the past several years, will pan out over coming decades? Since this book's publication, several of its ideas have first fallen out of fashion only to be later praised by nutrition gurus. Overall it's an important read and reference for anyone interested in holistic health.

I bought this Diet and Nutrition: A Holistic Approach book when it was first published, many years ago. Since then, I have probably bought 5 copies. It still remains one of the best sources for info and basic guide to what nutrition is all about. All of the writers books are good, but this is my favorite one. It really holds up to the test of time. Easy to understand.

Betty Crocker The 300 Calorie Cookbook PDF Reviews ebook Download



I ordered this Betty Crocker The 300 Calorie Cookbook: 300 tasty meals for eating healthy every day  by Betty Crocker after seeing some of the positive reviews. I figured I'd get a few good recipes out of it like most books...I ended up with much more than "a few"! I have nothing but great things to say about the recipes. So far we've cooked about two dozen meals from the book and haven't been disappointed yet! I'm all about cooking quick and healthy, so if that's your style too you should enjoy this cookbook.

It has moved to the top of my shelf for quick access! The best part, I don't have to worry about calorie counting...every meal in the Betty Crocker The 300 Calorie Cookbook book is 300 calories or less and clearly lists all of the nutritional information. I have occasionally exchanged a few of the frozen ingredients for fresh and added some additional spices but that's just personal preference. The best thing I've discovered about this book, besides the ease of the recipes, are the ingredients...most are already in your pantry unlike a lot of other cookbooks that require the purchase of a lot of pre-made products or off the wall items that you will never use again.

If I had to list one warning, it would be that I don't recommend this
Betty Crocker The 300 Calorie Cookbook book for the "gourmet" chef who enjoys making everything from scratch and being in the kitchen all day. The recipes are made for busy families who want to eat healthy and still have time for the rest of life's activities. It's been a great purchase!

Working the Plate: The Art of Food Presentation by Christopher Styler, David Lazarus is a very nice book for beginners or a cook looking to become more of a chef. The recipes are workable. There are certain patterns that repeat (e.g. use of molds, sauces, etc). Knife skills are assumed. Layering and building are touched on. Keep a plate clean, no messy garnishes along the rims. This book will firm up what you don't know, but if you are working chef this won't/shouldn't be new.

However, presentation at the next step is found in many places: Art Culinaire magazine is a start. Then the
Working the Plate: The Art of Food Presentation books of El Bulli, Michel Bras, Heston Blumenthal, Food Network, then HSN, QVC food presentations. Inspiration and cutting edge are found in nontraditional places and brought mainstream.

Working the Plate: The Art of Food Presentation book has opened my eyes on some great ideals and will help me through some plating issues while I am in school and for many plates to come. Plus my family really enjoys the fancy plating instead of the normal drop your food in the plate and go. Recommend this book to any culinary student or individual who just wants to dress up thier plates for dinner or any meal for that matter.

The small portion sizes require at least 4 or 5 dishes to comprise an entire meal (although the recipes may be scaled up to more typical serving sizes without much problem).

The French Laundry Cookbook book can be pretentious (witness the blurb entitled 'the importance of offal'), includes recipes that 99.9% of readers will not bother to attempt (stuffed pigs heads, for example) and more than a few recipes require a very well equipped kitchen to pull off (juicers, mandolines, silipat baking sheets, variety of strainers, etc...), but all seem accessible if you take your time and have mastered some basic cooking skills.

The French Laundry Cookbook very fun and informative book for those who love to cook and enjoy a challenge in the kitchen. If you are serious, you will have a blast, learn a lot, and eat some spectacular food. If the food tastes this good when I make it, I can only imagine how good it is at the restaurant.
